SHC opens Hermana Fausta exhibit at SM City Lucena

Sacred Heart College held an exhibit featuring Hermana Fausta Labrador at SM City Lucena on August 14 to commemorate her being “Ina ng Lucena.”

Included in the ribbon cutting was Lucena City’s Mayor Roderick Alcala, Vice Mayor Philip Castillo, Sr. Josefina R. Quiachon, D.C. and other important personalities.

An introductory to Hermana Fausta Labrador was done on the first part of the event which is the unveiling of her statue in the heroes’ lane at Pleasant Ville subdivision.

The exhibit contains some of Lola Uta’s memorabilia and panels telling her history and her contributions to the educational landscape of the city.

Hermana Fausta Labrador y Zarzadias, born on December 19, 1858 in Tayabas, Quezon as Nemesia Zarzadias, has contributed much to the betterment of Lucena—one most recognizable is the founding of Escuela del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, known today as Sacred Heart College. She also founded the first hospital in Lucena City.

She was recognized as a hero of Lucena under City Ordinance No. 2377 series 2009 and was finally enacted on 14th of December of the same year.

In an interview, Mr. Rodolfo Vallesteros, a mall visitor said “Ngayon ko lang siya nakilala.” “Syempre kailangan mong makilala ang Ina ng Lucena” Mr. Rodolfo added.

The exhibit was led by Dr. Josefina M. Parentela, vice-president for academics of SHC, together with select personnel, under the guidance and supervision of Sr. Josefina Quiachon, DC, school president. Mrs. Ma. Janet Geneblazo – Buelo served as master of ceremony.
