Lopez champs, truly “Gayang-gaya! Siyang-siya!”

Roxanne Lopez, a student from the College of Education, was named champion of “Gayang-gaya! Siyang-siya!” (GGSS) held on August 13 at the SHC Rendu Cultural Center and Gymnasium.

GGSS is a celebrity impression contest much like ABS-CBN’s hit celebrity impersonation program, “Your Face Sounds Familiar”. However, participants are allowed to make impressions of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) singers only.

Lopez wowed the audience with her spot on impression of Maria Luisa Ramsey, more popularly known as Jaya, a Filipino soul music singer.

Second and third placers were Solea Mae Averia, a Business Administration student who brought her inner Lea Salonga to the stage, and Gail Ong, an Accountancy student who performed on stage as Yeng Constantino, respectively.

Other celebrity singers ‘present’ in the event were Jessa Zaragoza impressed by College of Social Work, Jose Marie Viceral (mononym: Vice Ganda) impressed by College of Liberal Arts, Francisco Mañalac (mononym: Bamboo Mañalac) impressed by College of Psychology, and another Yeng Constantino impressed by College of Computer Science.

Present in the contest were Mr. Joel Boragay, the Chairperson, Mrs. Amelia C. Vargas, the Dean of the Colleges of Nursing, and Pharmacy, who gave her opening speech, and other school personnel. Dr. Luzviminda G. Calzado, the Director of Student Activities/Development and Discipline gave the Certificate of Recognition to the judges.

SHC’s MIS/IT team was also present in the event. The team facilitated the computerized scoring system of the contest. Leeroi Christian Q. Rubio and Maria Janah I. Inojosa, both 2nd year students from the College of Education served as masters of ceremony.
